![]() ![]() So the total price for the ATEN CS782DP plus the two adapters would only be US$281 instead of US$300. With a bargain like that, how could I resist?Īs a bonus I'd get to use the 7-port USB2 hub I also inherited, to provide power for at least one of the adapters. Would it not be simpler to just find an AGP video card for the G4 with a standard DVI output? DVI is easy to adapt to DP. I'm guessing yours has an ADC port and VGA? I'd imagine an ADC to DVI adapter would be scarce and expensive these days. What you suggest certainly appealed to me because of simplicity. However, using this as a guide, I went searching via Google for DVI-output video cards that would work with a Digital Audio G4 and have Mac OS 9 support. It turned out that the only available card that looked like a possibility is a Radeon 7000 from NewEgg. Besides, I would only have saved about US$20 over StarTech's VGA-to-DVI adapter, and would probably have had to worry about flashing it for a Mac.īut that turned out to be a PCI card, not an AGP card. P.S.: Oh, I see what he found was the ATEN CS782DP itself-at US$8 less than it is at B&H Photo. OK, I started to put through an order to see if they would charge NYS-NYC sales tax (which I'm sure B&H Photo would) they don't, so I put through my order. SWITCHRESX UPSIDEDOWN MANUALīTW, I had already downloaded the User Manual from ATEN's website-so I knew what I was getting. P.P.S.: Also found the StarTech adapters suggested by bw9753, at only US$90 on -so I ordered those too. My total cost comes to US$234, which isn't too bad. Today was a day of progress on the VGA-to-DP converter front, starting with some inspiration and ending with some temporary frustration as a result of my last night's stupidity. Īll updates to all 4.x versions will remain free for you.Late last night I thought about how I would power the two converters (which have USB connectors because they are active converters-not adapters), and decided by this morning that it would be messy to power one of the two via a USB cable from a hub external to my G4 tower (my G4 has only two USB 1.1 ports, and I must reserve one of them for connection to the KVM switch).
